It took a little longer than anticipated but I’ve completed the latest art dress – Cathy, and listed her on Etsy (she has since been bought). I had hoped to get her finished before the weekend but a rather hectic Saturday saw that deadline slip. More about that from Tom later.
This is not the first time I’ve made a piece based on the character of Cathy Earnshaw, from the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, you may have seen the piece I made last September (click here to view the post). I’m still taken with the character of Cathy, within the novel she is good and evil, fantasy and reality, and the book will remain forever one of my favourites.
My first Cathy was a simpler affair but on this occasion I’ve been more daring; adding an embroidered quotation to the skirt of the dress and making the jacket far more elaborate with a gathered decorative bustle at the back.
I recently enjoyed working with some vintage tins, they were quite a fun and a change from the art dresses which have been my focus over the last 12 months. I’m not done with Cathy yet, and I’ve got a feeling she’ll possibly end up inspiring something tiny 🙂
