Google PageRank Update

Time once again to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who support Messie Jessie. If you’ve bought a piece of work from my Etsy shop, visit this blog regularly, link to the blog or share my work with friends or family, you’ve helped increase awareness of my art and my little space on the internet. End result? this little blog has recently achieved Google PageRank 3.

What is PageRank

PageRank is a score given by Google to web sites and pages indicating their poularity and usefulness. Simply put, it’s the popularity and usefulness of a site or page measured as other sites and pages start to link back to your content. But it’s not popularity alone which determines PageRank, relevance matters too E.g improving PageRank by gathering backlinks to your site about cars would be pointless if the site was full of articles and info about trains.

At one time PageRank was very important to website developers, particularly Internet Marketeers. They used to cheat the system by buying backlinks to increase PageRank and consequently their site’s visibility in Serach Engine Results Pages.  Google no longer places that much importance on PageRank to determine Search Results and only publishes the data three or four times a year. Yet, it remains one of the factors used and does give you some idea of where your little site stands in relation to all the others.
