Art Assemblage – The Moth (Walter De La Mare)

The Moth

An assemblage of another time captured in a small vintage tin, which is 16 cm long, 12 cm wide when the tin is opened, 6 cm when closed.

The Moth

I found a lovely little book of poems by different poets which has inspired my next few pieces, this one beingĀ  The Moth by Walter De La Mare.

The Moth

Isled in the midnight air,
Musked with the dark’s faint bloom,
Out into glooming and secret haunts
The flame cries,

‘Come!’Lovely in dye and fan,
A-tremble in shimmering grace,
A moth from her winter swoon
Uplifts her face:

Stares from her glamorous eyes;
Wafts her on plumes like mist;
In ecstasy swirls and sways
To her strange tryst.

I love old fabrics and bits of old paper, always have and am a natural hoarder, much to my families bemusement (as I have paper and fabric nests all over). At the moment I just love the word disintegration but, to me its not about breaking up and disappearing to nothing, rather its more like a chance to develop and reconstruct.

This wall assemblage is made from a piece of found driftwood off my local beach. I’ve added three white moths, which I distressed so that they look as if they are slightly disintegrating. I wanted the moths to be white, as I like the white contrast against the piece of wood whilst keeping the piece very fresh and simple.
