“Lara” inspired by the 1965 film Dr Zhivago starring the wonderful Julie Christie and Omar Sharif.

“They loved each other, not driven by necessity, by the “blaze of passion” often falsely ascribed to love. They loved each other because everything around them willed it, the trees and the clouds and the sky over their heads and the earth under their feet.”
Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago

I have always loved this film and have seen it many times. The whole imagery and sensitivity of this film is not just beautiful but stunning and haunting. The 2002 television serial is also worth watching. It’s based on the 1965 feature film and directed by Giacomo Campiotti starring Keira knightly. It’s far more factual than poetic.

I’m not going to go on about the film too much as I did a blog piece about it a couple of weeks ago and don’t want to drone on too much. I just wanted to share the figurine I’ve made of her. Her colouring is inspired from the beautiful winter/snow scenery, I wanted to keep her very neutral and simple having an enigmatic feel about her. You might wonder about the greyhound that is totally artistic license as I love greyhounds and have always envisioned Lara with one. Hope you like her and would love to hear your comments.
